Originally painted in 2002, I have held onto this piece for sentimental reasons. I would like to see this original piece in a loving home. The piece explores the underlying base agenda that precedes our desires to have a soul mate. Symbols of fertility, blind-desire, identity, newness and what seems to be almost submission are almost obvious throughout the piece. When alone and in desire, we frequently see in others, what we want to see and often times we present ourselves and what we truly have to offer to them, through our own frequently very skewed perspective. It is one almost unavoidable components that make pursuing a love interest so fascinating to observe objectively. This painting was part of the “Closest to Mars” series that I worked on from 2001 to 2003. The aggressive usage of deep reds pays homage to the year the planet Earth was to be the closet to the Red Planet for generations to come.
